There is, almost invariably, a mixture of endashes and emdashes –
not to mention masquerading hyphens and double-hyphens –
in every article of substantial size.

An en dash is spaced (with a space on each side) when used as sentence punctuation.
An em dash is always unspaced (no space on either side).

Dis sayin'. --Brogo13 (talk) 19:05, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

Brogo13, we hashed this out recently and dashed out policy guidance at UN:STYLE#Dashes. We opted for the em-dash with a space on either side. Subtly different from Wikipedia, as we acknowledge, but doesn't make anything less funny. With over 30,000 articles, some are going to be out of compliance. I started out in the double-hyphen era! It looked like an em-dash in my font. Feel free to convert any you run into. Spıke 🎙️19:55 18-Jan-22
